Abstract

Khoda Baksha Sain, a folklore devotee, artist, music teacher, lyricist and composer, was a dedicated follower of the path of Lalon Sain. His devotion and practices have achieved institutional recognition through his receiving the Bangla Academy Fellowship. He also has been honored with the Ekushey Padak, one of the most glorious state honors of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Besides, Lalon Parishad Kendriya Shangshad has titled him as "Sangitsagar” - the ocean of music. He dedicated the whole of his life in transmitting Lalon's song and other Baul song, one of the most prestigious Bangladeshi folklore elements, all over national and international domain. He guided the American researcher Carol Solomon in creating the posthumous book City of Mirrors: Songs of Lalon Sai published by Oxford University Press (New York, USA). Bangla Academy has published Marami Kabi Khoda Baksha Shah: Jiban O Sangit (Mystic Poet Khoda Baksha Shah: Life and Songs)" - a wide field of his musical pursuits. In this article, varied aspects of the life and works of Khoda Baksha Sain have been discussed.
