Abstract

From the very beginning of its foundation, Bangla Academy has given special importance to the collection, preservation and publication of folkloric elements in Bangladesh. From the fiscal year 2010-2011, under the project entitled 'Lokoj Samskritir Bikash Karmasuchi', Bangla Academy has undertaken an extensive survey to identify the folk-elements in 64 districts of Bangladesh. The aim of this project was to discover the vast and diverse folk-culture of Bangladesh through field work, to collect and preserve them in a scientific and orderly manner, to publish the collected material in book format and to present our traditional cultural resources to the new generation. The collectors engaged in this work have been trained to search for the folk- elements from different district/upazila of Bangladesh. The elements that they have collected have been preserved and district-based separate manuscripts have been prepared from them. Then these manuscripts have been examined, edited, revised and published one by one. The present article has focused on the contents of the first 10 volumes published in this series and offered a detailed discussion on them.
