বিষম তারা পর্যবেক্ষণের অগ্রনায়কেরা হলেন জার্মান জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানী ডেভিড ফাব্রিশিয়াস, ইতালীয় জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানী জেমিনিয়ানো মোন্তানারি, ব্রিটিশ জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানী জন গুডরিক প্রমুখ। নক্ষত্রের গঠন ও বিবর্তন, ছায়াপথের দূরত্ব নির্ণয় প্রভৃতি ক্ষেত্রে বিষমতার মতো প্রতিভাস বিষয় জ্যোতির্পদার্থবিজ্ঞানের বিভিন্ন শাখায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখে। এ প্রবন্ধে বিষম তারা পর্যবেক্ষণের ওপর আলোকপাত করা হয়েছে।
