Abstract

হিমালয় ক্ষয়ে সর্বদক্ষিণে যে বদ্বীপ গড়ে উঠেছিল, জলের প্রবাহে নদীময় যে জগৎ তৈরি হয়েছিল, সেটাই পরবর্তীকালে স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে অভ্যুদয় ঘটে। নাম হয় তার বাংলাদেশ। এবং নদী ও সূর্যালোকের প্রতিফলনে যে বর্ণময় আলোকচ্ছটা ছড়িয়ে পড়ত তারই বৈচিত্র্যময় ছাপ পড়তে থাকে এ অঞ্চলের মানুষদের ওপর। আমাদের সেই পূর্বপুরুষেরা নদী থেকে নদীতে, গ্রাম থেকে গ্রামান্তরে ঘুরে বেড়িয়েছে, পলিমাটির অঞ্চলে গড়ে তুলেছে তাদের আবাসভূমি। রোদে পুড়ে, বৃষ্টিতে ভিজে জীবন নিঃশেষিত করে ফসল ফলিয়েছে আর তৈরি করেছে পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের জন্য অপেক্ষাকৃত মসৃণ পথ। ক্ষয়িষ্ণু, কষ্টকর আর সর্পিল পথে জীবনকে প্রবাহিত করেছে পদ্মা, মেঘনা, যমুনা আর মধুমতির স্রোতধারায়। পলি হয়ে জমেছে নদীর বাঁকে বাঁকে। অনিশ্চয়তার মধ্যদিয়ে সময় পেলেই তারা প্রশ্ন করেছে জীবনের উৎস, পরিণতি আর ওই নক্ষত্রগুলোর সঙ্গে তাদের সম্পর্ক নিয়ে। তারা নিশ্চয়ই ভেবেছে রেখে যাওয়া প্রজন্ম সেই মাঝি, জেলে আর কৃষকের মন নিয়ে মহাকাশ আর মাটির সঙ্গে জীবনের সম্পর্ককে উদ্্ঘাটিত করবে। সেজন্য তাদের অধিকারও চেয়েছে। হয়তো সেই পথ ধরে উত্তর প্রজন্ম বিশ্ববিজ্ঞানের স্রোতে মিশে যেতেই চাইছে না, পলিবাহিত মনের সঙ্গে মাটি ও মহাকাশের সংযোগে বিশ্ববিজ্ঞানকেও উন্মোচিত করতে চাইছে আপন ধারায়।

From the eroding heights of the Himalayas, a delta was born in the distant south, shaped by the eternal dance of rivers. This land, nurtured by flowing waters, blossomed into the nation known as Bangladesh. The rivers and sunlight wove a tapestry of colors, leaving a rich legacy on its people. Our forebears journeyed from river to river, village to village, building their homes in the fertile soil. Under the blazing sun and pouring rain, they labored, growing crops and paving a smoother path for those who followed. Life flowed through the winding, challenging courses of the Padma, Meghna, Jamuna, and Madhumati rivers, leaving silt in its wake. Amidst the uncertainties, they pondered the mysteries of life, its origins, and their connection to the stars. They believed that future generations would explore the relationship between life, the cosmos, and the earth with the spirit of boatmen, fishermen, and farmers. They sought their rights for this very reason. Perhaps, in following this path, future generations do not merely wish to blend into the stream of global science but also aim to unveil it in their own unique way, connecting the silt-laden mind with the earth and the cosmos.]
